Other Puna sights
One of the most amazing places in the world is Puna, Hawaii. Directly south of Hilo, this area of the island is the size of Oahu with a population about 5% as large. The world’s most active volcano has been pumping out liquid rock almost continuously since January 1983. Most of Puna is covered in rainforest or recent lava flows. Puna has 2 main towns, Keaau and Pahoa. Puna has miles of rocky coastline, and two easily accessible black sand beaches.
This site has a wonderful series of photos and info about the various sites in Puna. You can discuss all things Puna over at Punaweb which also has a lot of useful information about the area.
