The beaches and snorkeling are amazing, and Haleakala (the 10,000 foot volcano with a caldera larger than Manhattan) is otherworldly. The Hana side is lush and beautiful, with dozens of waterfalls. It is the newer part of the island, and is much like the Hilo side of the Big Island, with few beaches, lots of lava, and beautiful sea cliffs. However, Maui is too developed and touristy for my taste. Haleakala is one of the highlights.

My favorite beach on Maui is Makena beach, which is separated into Big Beach and Little Beach. Little Beach is where the queers & nudists go, so of course, so do I! From this part of the island, one can see Molokini crater, Kahoolawe, and Lanai.
